The Munich Residence was the residence and government seat of the Bavarian dukes, electors and kings from 1508 to 1918. Originally built as a home and studio by Franz von Stuck (1863-1928), the Villa Stuck Museum has been the third municipal museum in Munich since 1992, alongside the City Museum and the Lenbachhaus. The Villa Stuck (management: Michael Buhrs) now houses Franz von Stuck's historic living and studio rooms as well as rooms for special exhibitions. The collection of works by Franz von Stuck is supplemented by objects from the field of applied art from the turn of the century, especially Art Nouveau. Special exhibitions on topics from the historical and artistic context of Franz von Stuck as well as from the field of fine and applied art of the 20th century complete the museum's program.
